NSA Trailing/Disaster/HRD Training

2026年1月25日（日曜日）2026年最初のTrailing/Disaster/HRD 訓練会を開催しました。Trailingは、各unitの課題であるスタートからのトレール方向の選択とネガティブ反応の確認などを中心に行った。Disasterは、捜索エリアの風向きを考慮しながらハンドリングによる捜索スタイルの確立や車両検索に関しての改善などを行った。HRDに関しては、先日の実働捜索活動を踏まえ、ソースを小さくしながら気温や対流条件によるセントコーンの動きやセントプールへの犬の反応などを全員で共有できたので、今後も捜索活動における精度の向上を進めたい。
On Sunday, January 25, 2026, NSA held its first Trailing / Disaster / HRD training session of the year.
For Trailing, each unit focused on key challenges such as selecting the correct trail direction from the start and confirming negative responses.
In the Disaster segment, improvements were made to search style through better handling techniques, taking into account wind direction across the search area, as well as refining vehicle search methods.
As for HRD, building on insights from our recent operational search, participants collectively observed canine responses to scent cones and scent pools under varying temperature and convection conditions, while working with smaller scent sources. These shared experiences will contribute to further enhancing accuracy in future search operations.

Trailing Unit

氷点下の気温で湿度も低に環境下でのトレーニング開始となり、臭跡を確認しずらい状況がみられた。特にスタート時のトレール方向を選択する作業は、慎重に行う必要がる為に繊細な作業が求められる。トレーニングの中に組み込まれるモチベーションランとセントアーティクルのトレーニングの切り換えはハンドラーのハンドリング如何により興奮ではなく集中した意欲に切り換えたい。
The training began under sub-zero temperatures and low humidity, conditions that made it difficult for the dogs to detect scent trails. In particular, selecting the correct trail direction at the starting point required careful attention, demanding a high level of precision.
During training, motivation runs and scent article exercises were incorporated. It is important that handlers guide their dogs in a way that transitions their drive from mere excitement to focused motivation, through effective handling techniques.

Disaster Unit

環境の設定は、あまり難易度を上げずに基礎トレーニングとして行い、要救助者への到達時の素早い告知などの確認ができた。また風の方向による犬の動きとハンドリングも対象エリア全体を捜索するうえでは、必要不可欠なテクニカル要素である。
The training environment was set at a basic level without increasing the difficulty too much, allowing for confirmation of key fundamentals such as prompt alert behavior upon reaching the mock victim.
Additionally, the dogs’ movement in relation to wind direction, along with appropriate handling, proved to be essential technical elements when conducting thorough searches of the entire target area.

HRD Unit

トレーニングにおける環境設定の難易度ではなく、ソースの大きさの難易度にフォーカスしたトレーニングを行った。偶然に加わったディストラクションへの犬の反応により告知にズレが出る場面もあった。またソースを設定してからの時間経過と気温上昇に伴い、セントコーンが上昇気流と下降気流により対象エリアのいくつかのポイントにセントプールを構成するために、犬は純粋に、そのセントプールに反応をし始めた。この犬の反応をハンドラーは読み取りソースのポイントを特定できるスキルを学び今後の実働に活かしていきたい。
Rather than increasing the overall difficulty of the training environment, the focus was placed on the difficulty level based on the size of the scent source. In some cases, dogs showed delayed alert responses due to distractions that were unintentionally introduced into the environment.
As time passed after the placement of the scent source and temperatures began to rise, scent cones were affected by both updrafts and downdrafts, forming scent pools at multiple points within the search area. The dogs began responding specifically to these scent pools.
Handlers worked to interpret these responses and develop the skill to accurately identify the actual source location—an essential ability to be applied in future real-world operations.
